Felton Road Pinot Noir - Central Otago, New Zealand
| Felton Road's vineyards in Bannockburn follow a gentle, north-facing
ridge in the heart of Central Otago. Though only a few kilometres
from the most southerly vineyards on Earth, a combination of low
rainfall, warm days, cool nights and free draining soils form a unique
microclimate ideal for the classical, elegant wines of Pinot Noir,
Riesling and Chardonnay |

| When making Pinot Noir, fruit passes by gravity to fermenters to
prevent pumping of must. Fruit is not crushed so it ferments as whole
berries while the use of a percentage of whole bunches adds complexity
and structure. Using wild yeasts for our fermentation is an important
part of our natural wine making philosophy, with wines being rested
outdoors in small fermenters for extended maceration with up to four
punch downs per day, before being run by gravity to barrel. All our
barrels are Burgundian coopered, 3 year air dried (typically 30% new oak
each vintage) and selected for their slow extraction and subtlety of
flavour.

| A very floral, perfumed, classic Pinot Noir nose: fruit, violets, spice and bramble, with nothing in excess. Creamy and weighty across the mid-palate, very flowing, almost juicy sweetness with just enough dusty tannins kicking in to complement a dark finish with hints of espresso and chocolate. Complete, complex and perhaps close to the ultimate expression for a Felton Road Pinot Noir. |
