Willunga 100 Shiraz/Viognier - McLaren Vale, Australia

At the heart of the Willunga 100 McLaren Vale vineyards, stands a towering River Red Gum tree that was well over a hundred years old when vineyards were first planted in Australia in the 1840's. Co-existing with this symbol of Australia are Grenache, Shiraz and Cabernet vines, which are ideally suited to the warm maritime climate of the McLaren Vale.
Willunga 100 aims to build on the great Australian tradition of ripe, full bodied wines that embody the qualities that first made Australian wines famous - the character of the grape, vineyard and the winemaker.
Deep red purple colour typical of this blend. A lifted nose of violets, blueberry and liquorice combines with a subtle note of musk and apricot from the Viognier. Cedar oak notes add complexity. A full, rich palate is reminiscent of dark fruits and chocolate with a long palate and crisp acidity.  At this stage it is expected that the wines will have considerable life but with regional softness to allow early appreciation.
