WHAT IS GRAPEWISE?

Grapewise is a Wine Appreciation Enterprise set up by Andrew Hill and Sue Lobb to educate and inform those who wish to learn about wine and its origins in a relaxed, enjoyable and informal way.  We are based in Loughborough, Leicestershire.

 

WINE & SPIRIT EDUCATION TRUST QUALIFICATIONS

 

Grapewise is a registered center with the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET®) in London, and, as such, is able to run both Intermediate Certificate and Advanced Certificate courses and to invigilate the respective examinations.  Both qualifications are well-recognised and are particularly important for those who wish to pursue a career in food and wine, as well as being informative for the interested amateur.

 

Both Andrew and Sue are Accredited Tutors and hold the WSET® Diploma.  Andrew has many years' experience in the wine trade and has lectured wine courses during that time.  Sue is also a qualified teacher in further and adult education, and she too, has many years experience of lecturing in wine appreciation, as well as being a part-time Diploma tutor for WSET®.

 

Grapewise has  now run several WSET® Intermediate courses, as well as two Advanced Certificate courses.  The exam pass rate is in excess of 90%, with distinctions being gained by seven candidates at the higher level.  We are also able to support candidates wishing to gain these qualifications by home study.  If you are interested in learning more about these courses please do not hesitate to contact us.

 

 

WINE TASTING SEMINARS

 

We also conduct Wine Tasting Seminars on a variety of themes.  These are usually geared towards people with some knowledge of wine, but beginners are always welcome at all our events.  Check out our  Events Calendar for more information on up and coming functions.

 

 

THEME LUNCHES AND DINNERS

 

Wine with food is important, and Grapewise recognises this.  We held our first themed dinner in honour of St Vincent - the patron saint of winemakers!  Our second dinner had an Italian theme, and we held a Spanish lunch in February 2001.  Our Events Calendar will give you dates for our forthcoming themed dinners, but if you would like to be automatically kept up to date please let us know, and we can add you to our e-mailing list.

 

 

EDUCATIONAL TRIPS TO WINE REGIONS OF THE WORLD

 

Our biggest and most exciting activities are the educational trips to wine-producing areas that we organise.  In previous years, we have taken groups to Champagne (France), Alsace (France), Spain, Tuscany (Italy), the Loire (France) and in September 2001 we shall be setting off for California.
